Project Overview
What happens when you strip away the steering wheel, the gas pedal, and everything you've ever known about getting from Point A to Point B? You get Loop — a conceptual robotaxi application built around the idea that self-driving vehicles aren't just a technological leap, they're a human experience problem. My job was to figure out what that experience should feel like.
Loop is a full-concept mobile application for a robotaxi service, designed ground-up for iOS and Android. This project spans creative direction, UX and UI design, custom illustration, and motion design — a complete end-to-end design system built for a world where the car drives itself, and the only thing that matters is making the passenger feel safe, in control, and delighted.

The Challenge
Autonomous vehicles represent one of the most significant shifts in human transportation since the automobile itself. But the technology alone won't win users over — trust will. The moment someone steps into a vehicle with no driver, every interaction on that screen needs to inspire confidence, reduce anxiety, and put the rider in the driver's seat, figuratively speaking.
This was the central design challenge: How do you design an interface for a vehicle people don't control?
Creative Direction
The visual language of Loop was built on a single idea — calm authority. Riders should feel like they're in capable hands, even when those hands are algorithms. That meant:
A refined, dark-mode-first visual palette that echoes the quiet luxury of a night ride. Typography that communicates precision without coldness. Motion that's purposeful, never decorative — every animation has a purpose.
The brand system balances futurism with accessibility, speaking to early adopters without alienating everyday commuters. From the wordmark to the micro-interactions, every design decision was intentional and documented.
Passenger Display
The model view: transparency as reassurance
The 3D bird's-eye render shows the car actively detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic signals — highlighted in neon green. This decision was controversial: does showing the car's "perception layer" create anxiety or reduce it?
User testing showed that seeing the car see is deeply reassuring. Passengers reported higher trust scores when the AI's attention was visible. The green highlights function as a live "all clear" signal, reinforcing that the system is alert and working.
The minimal map: context without clutter
The schematic map strips away map labels to show just the route geometry, car position, and destination. It answers the single most common in-ride question — "how much further?" — without requiring the passenger to parse a full Google Maps interface.
A persistent progress bar at the top of every screen (not just the map) means passengers never have to navigate away from whatever they're doing just to check ETA.
Card menu system
In-ride controls are accessed through a modal layer triggered by a menu button at the bottom center. Rather than a traditional navigation list, the interface surfaces three tappable feature cards: Map View, Music, and Temperature.
Each card is a live preview rather than a labeled icon. The map card shows the actual route thumbnail; the music card shows animated audio waveforms; the temperature card shows the current cabin temperature with its color-coded gradient. This preview model reduces the cognitive cost of choosing — passengers know what they're tapping into before they tap.
Vibes over playlists
Rather than presenting a Spotify search bar, the music system leads with a curated "select a vibe" experience. Full-bleed playlist artwork cards invite passengers to choose a mood — not navigate a library. The design borrows from streaming UI conventions passengers already know, then strips them to the essentials.
Support that feels calm
The Support modal is one of the most delicate screens in the system. A passenger tapping "Support" may be mildly confused — or genuinely distressed. The design must serve both states without escalating anxiety for the former or under-serving the latter.
Final Thoughts
Designing Loop forced me to think about interfaces as environments, not screens. In a moving vehicle with no driver, the UI carries a burden traditional apps never face: it has to make people feel safe. That's a fundamentally different bar than "usable."
If I were to continue this project, I'd explore haptic feedback integration (the seat vibrating for a soft "arrived" signal), multi-passenger modes, and accessibility adaptations for riders with low vision or cognitive differences. There's also a rich space around language localization — how does "slide to start" translate across cultures?
The system I designed represents a coherent, tested approach to in-vehicle UX — but autonomous vehicles are still new territory, and the design should evolve alongside passenger familiarity with the technology.
